Artist Talk: To be forgotten and remembered

In conjunction with the closing day of If I can Make One Wish..., a solo exhibition by represented artist Saroot Supasuthivech, Nova is pleased to present To be Forgotten and Remembered, a panel talk featuring Supasuthivech in conversation with Professor Piyarat Panlee, a distinguished lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Kasetsart University, and Berlin based artist, Chalida Asawakanjanakit.

 

Discussing the narratives and intricacies of dark tourism, particularly between site-specific areas utilised in the exhibition and the recent residency Supasuthivech experienced at Künstlerhaus Berlin initiated by NTU CCA Singapore, the dialogue will digress into the morality and considerations associated with historically significant locations identified with tragedy, suffering, or death. Dark tourism serves as a medium through which individuals confront unsettling facets of human history, simultaneously raising thought-provoking ethical inquiries regarding the commercialisation of tragedy and the ethics surrounding tourism.

 

In an attempt to question its role of keeping history alive, the conversations will delve into Supasuthivech’s profound fascination with these sites, collectively traversing the polarities within the multifaceted layers of dark tourism and its profound relevance in today’s expanding global landscape.

เนื่องในวันสิ้นสุดนิทรรศการ If I can make one wish... นิทรรศการเดี่ยวของ สะรุจ ศุภสุทธิเวช โนวายินดีนำเสนอกิจกรรมเสวนา To be forgotten and remembered การพูดคุยระหว่างศิลปินร่วมกับ อาจารย์ ดร. ปิยรัตน์ ปั้นลี้ อาจารย์ประจำภาควิชาสังคมวิทยาและมานุษยวิทยามหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ และ ชลิดา อัศวกาญจนกิจ ศิลปินจากเบอร์ลิน

 

การสนทนาจะถกถามถึงประเด็นเรื่องเล่าและความซับซ้อนของการท่องเที่ยวด้านมืด (dark tourism) ระหว่างพื้นที่ที่ถูกกล่าวถึงในนิทรรศการและประสบการณ์ล่าสุดที่สะรุจได้สัมผัสจาก residency ที่ Künstlerhaus Bethanien เยอรมันซึ่งจัดการและดูแลโดย NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore (NTU CCA Singapore) และสนับสนุนโดย European Union บทสนทนาจะเจาะลึกถึงเรื่องราวทางศีลธรรมและพิจารณาสถานที่สำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่เกิดเหตุการณ์โศกนาฏกรรมความทุกข์ทรมานหรือความตายการท่องเที่ยวด้านมืดนั้นได้ทำหน้าที่เป็นสื่อกลางให้ผู้คนได้เผชิญหน้ากับแง่มุมที่ไม่สงบเงียบของประวัติศาสตร์มนุษยชาติพร้อมๆไปกับการตั้งคำถามเชิงจริยธรรมที่กระตุ้นความคิดเกี่ยวกับการทำโศกนาฏกรรมให้เป็นการค้าและจริยธรรมเกี่ยวกับการท่องเที่ยว

 

ด้วยความพยายามที่จะตั้งคำถามถึงบทบาทในการรักษาประวัติศาสตร์ให้คงอยู่บทสนทนาจะเจาะลึกถึงความหลงใหลอย่างลึกซึ้งของสะรุจที่มีต่อสถานที่เหล่านี้พร้อมกับร่วมกันสำรวจมุมมองและชั้นต่างๆของการท่องเที่ยวด้านมืดรวมถึงความเกี่ยวข้องอย่างลึกซึ้งของการท่องเที่ยวทิศทางดังกล่าวกับภูมิทัศน์ทั่วโลกที่กำลังขยายตัวในปัจจุบัน
