On the occasion of the new gallery’s opening, Nova Contemporary is pleased to present Affinities, a group exhibition featuring nearly thirty artists arranged in thematic pairings and groups. Spanning three decades of experimentation and evolution in Thai contemporary art, the show celebrates the creative community that has flourished around Nova over the last eight years. At the core of the show is the iconic pairing of Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook and the late Montien Boonma, close friends and artistic peers who represented Thailand in the 2005 Venice Biennale with a duo exhibition titled Those Dying Wishing To Stay, Those Living Preparing To Leave. Both of their practices embody the conceptual ethos of Nova’s programme and foundational themes in contemporary Thai art, including notions of cosmology, healing, cycles of time, Thai identity and historical narrative.
